Prayer at Three in the Morning

At three in the morning, I do not pray beautifully.

There are no perfect words. No careful order.

Only please.

Only help.

Only the name of the one I am afraid to lose.

Maybe faith is not eloquence.

Maybe it is reaching into the dark with an empty hand and trusting that someone reaches back.
