France’s Sweetz Launch Adds a €1 Million Bet on Vertical Drama

Updated: Oct 9
Vertical drama is no longer only a story about apps arriving from the United States and China. In September 2026, European app publisher Kovalee and production studio Nation launched Sweetz in France, backed by a reported €1 million funding round.
Advanced Television reported that the investors include M6 Group, German producer BriskPace Unlimited and several French production companies. The iOS app followed a beta phase. The report says details of the M6 partnership were still to come, which is a useful limit: an investor's name is not yet a programming slate or a broadcast deal.
Why a French launch matters
A new local platform has to answer two questions at once. Can it make French-language stories that feel native to the market? And can it compete with a phone screen already full of TikTok, YouTube and international drama apps? Funding buys a chance to answer those questions, not an audience.
The most interesting opportunity may be in tone. Many global microdramas share the same handful of premises: secret fortunes, ruthless exes, marriages of convenience. French writers can use the speed and episode rhythm of the format without assuming that every character must behave as if they live in the same imported romance.
What creators should watch
A platform launch can create demand for scripts, directors, editors and actors. It does not tell us who owns the intellectual property, what creators are paid, or how a show earns its money. Those are the questions I would ask before treating the funding number as evidence of a healthy market for everyone who works in it.
For now, Sweetz is a concrete sign of French investment in mobile serial fiction. The catalogue, commissioning terms and retention of viewers will tell us more than the announcement alone.
